PETALING JAYA: The father of William Yau could not hold back his tears when he was shown post-mortem photographs of his son during an inquest into the death of the six-year-old boy.

Yau Kok Kang, 33, was shown 38 photographs by Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Keng Fatt during the proceedings held by Coroner Mohd Hezri Shaharil.

Yau said he identified William in the photographs by the shape of his face, a scar on the left side of the forehead and his attire.

“A pathologist from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, who conducted a post-mortem on William, informed me that William’s rib was fractured.

“Prior to the incident, William did not complain of having pain on his rib cage,” he said in reply to a question by Lee.

Yau, who was the second witness, also said William was not a naughty boy and that he would not follow strangers although he was generally unafraid of people.

Yau and his wife Goh Ying Ying, 26, had gone briefly into an electrical shop in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on Jan 16 while their three children waited for them inside their Toyota Hilux just outside the store.

However, William got out of the car and subsequently went missing. His body was found on Jan 24, floating in a river near Port Klang.

Responding to a question by Coroner Mohd Hezri yesterday, Yau, who owns a motorcycle repair workshop, said he did not have any financial problem in his business and his debts with the supplier was a normal thing.

William’s mother Goh Ying Ying, 26, testified that she received a call from a man telling her to prepare RM80,000 in cash within two days if she wanted William to come home.

Goh said the man called her on three consecutive days from Jan 20.

“At one time, I heard a child in the background calling ‘mummy, mummy’ but I could not ascertain whether the voice came from a boy or a girl,” she said.

Counsel Goh Kim Lian held a watching brief for the Yau family.

The inquest will continue on March 20 and will run another three days from April 22.
